It is expected that this campaign will culminate in the dismissal of the entire government. Dmitry Medvedev himself has confirmed that the dismissal of his government will take place – the only question is when. May saw the sacking of Deputy Prime Minister and head of the government apparatus Vladislav Surkov, previously a long-term curator of Russia’s internal politics. Although he had made it clear that he was ready to take over that job once again, he was dismissed without being appointed to a new position. Surkov was replaced at his post of deputy prime minister by Sergey Prikhodko. The long-rumored business amnesty was indefinitely postponed.
