ANDREY KAUKIN: “THE EU MAY HAVE A SINGLE BODY RESPONSIBLE FOR GAS PURCHASING”

It is not unlikely that the European Union may establish a single body to conclude contracts for gas supplies to the EU countries. Andrey Kaukin, Head of Industrial Organization and Infrastructure Economics Department of the Gaidar Institute, told IA REGNUM correspondent. This is how he commented on the statement made by the Head of ECB, who called for uniting for the sake of "saving" the prices of natural gas.

"The continued growth of gas and, consequently, of electricity prices in the EU can indeed be expected due to approaching cold weather and start of the heating period. As for championing efforts, perhaps one can talk about the emergence of a single body to conclude contracts for the supply of gas to EU countries. Now we observe only the first phase of discussions, therefore, it would be too early to judge about the possible success of this initiative," the expert noted.
