SERGEY DROBYSHEVSKY ON FACTORS INCLUENCING THE PACE OF INFLATION

Scientific Director of the Gaidar Institute Sergey Drobyshevsky, in an interview with RIA Novosti, noted that the dynamics of inflation had been determined by two factors: the less pronounced seasonal cheapening of fruits and vegetables in August and the continuing rise in retail demand for non-food products and services.

That was the expert’s comment on the data released by the RF Ministry of Economic Development in its review “On the current price situation”, which indicated that as of September 6, annual inflation in Russia stood at 6.74%.

In the previous review it was stated that as of August 30, inflation in annual terms amounted to 6.79%. According to data released by Rosstat, weekly inflation in Russia declined to 0.07%, while over the period from the beginning of the year through September 6, consumer prices gained 4.75%.

“Preliminary data on the results achieved by the agro-industrial complex indicate that this year’s harvest is expected to be high, and so in September, the seasonal food cheapening will become more pronounced. It should also be noted that as a result of the decisions taken by the Government of the Russian Federation, the movement pattern of domestic food prices is

becoming increasingly less dependent on the continuing upward trend demonstrated by prices on world markets,” Sergey Drobyshevsky said by way of summing up.
