SERGEY DROBYSHEVSKY SPOKE ON THREATS THAT RUSSIANS MIGHT FACE IN THE EVENT OF DEFAULT

A default will have no impact on the lives of Russians. More significant consequences may arise from new sanctions, if any. For example, Russian companies could be completely banned from trading. This is the opinion of Sergey Drobyshevsky, Doctor of economic sciences and Scientific Director of the Gaidar Institute, in a conversation with E1.RU.

"It is hard to imagine what this legally means, given that all our assets have been frozen. To freeze them twice and declare Russia bankrupt? From an economic point of view, I don't see any changes resulted from this measure. A significant proportion of the ordinary people assets has been frozen: their banking cards are not operational, their accounts are blocked, and this is not because they are on the list. For businesses, there are already significant restrictions on trade, trade may be banned in full, although this will not depend on whether Russia is declared bankrupt or not, just as part of the next round of sanctions," believes Sergey Drobyshevsky.
