The Gaidar Institute hosted a round table on the development of Islamic banking in Russia

On 19 July, panel discussion “Legal aspects of creating Islamic financial sector in Russia” took place at the Gaidar Institute. The participants discussed the prospects of changing the Russian legislation in order to legally introduce and provide partner banking. Also, the question of adaptation of Islamic finance instruments to Russian law enforcement practice was raised during the expert discussion.

The round table was moderated by the deputy head of RANEPA Empirical Studies of Investments and Financial Markets Department , Gaidar Institute senior research fellow Bekkhan Chokaev.

The following experts took part in the discussion: banking law department professor at Kutafin Moscow State Law University Diana Alekseeva, chairman of Islamic finance department at the All-Russia public organization “Business Russia” Renat Edikhanov, deputy head of the banking law department at Kutafin Moscow State Law University Irina Mikheyeva, expert in the field of Islamic banking, postgraduate student at St. Petersburg University civil law department Inese Tenberga.
