Assessment of potential and real integration benefits for the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. Identifying areas for improving the EAEU integration model (EEC, October 2018 - April 2019)

In October 2018, Gaidar Institute experts commenced assessing potential and real integration benefits for the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and identifying areas for improving the EAEU integration model within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Commission agreement.

The project's aim was to analyze the current integration model of the EAEU, to assess the impact of integration on the level of competitiveness of member states, to identify areas of transformation of the integration model to ensure the maximization of integration benefits and increase the competitiveness of the EAEU member states.

The following main challenges will be met within the project:

1)     Comprehensive identification of the EAEU integration model with highlighting of significant factors affecting the value of integration benefits and competitiveness of the EAEU member states.

2)     Quantitative and qualitative assessment of real and potential integration benefits for the member states in general and by economic development areas (in accordance with the classification presented in the Fundamental Objectives of Economic Development). Assessment of the degree of deviation of real integration benefits for the member states and the EAEU from potential ones.

3)     Assessment of integration within the EAEU on the level of competitiveness of the member states.

4)     Identifying factors that reduce the “susceptibility” of national economies to integration efforts, as well as factors that restrict the growth of competitiveness of the EAEU member states.

5)     Develop proposals to improve the EAEU integration model in order to maximize integration benefits and enhance the competitiveness of the EAEU member states.

Ther project was completed in April 2019.
