Experts of Gaidar Institute took part in the 8th International Economic Symposium dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the St. Petersburg State University (SPSU)

On April 12, 2024, experts of  Gaidar Institute’s Department of Mathematical Modeling of Economic Processes -- Angelina Shpilevaya, Anna Maigur and Anastasia Pankratova - took part in the 8th International Economic Symposium dedicated to the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University.

The International Economic Symposium brings together on an annual basis leading scientists and practitioners in the field of economics, management and finance from Russia and abroad. The Symposium’s main goal consists in testing the conference participants’ scientific ideas and relevant proposals, as well as strengthening and promoting scientific and practical ties with other universities and representatives of the business community.

Angelina Shpilevaya delivered a report on the OLG model-based assessment of the outputs of the economic policy in education. The report presented the results of modeling various scenarios of the state policy in education to stimulate human capital accumulation in the Russian Federation.

Anna Maigur's report dealt with forecasting the length of unemployment by means of machine learning techniques. In her speech, Anna Maigur presented the results of constructing machine learning models to predict the duration of individual unemployment.

Anastasia Pankratova presented a report on the topic: “Sustainability of the Impact of a Technological Shock in the Small Open Economy Model with Learning by Doing.” During the analysis of the presented model, the specifics of the economy’s functioning in economic recession were studied.
