Gaidar Institute invites you to discuss Alexei Ulyukayev's book “World Reserve Currencies. The Dollar and its Competitors”

Presentation of the book by the prominent economist, former Minister of Economic Development of Russia Alexey Ulyukayev «World Reserve Currencies: The Dollar and Its Competitors», published by the Gaidar Institute in 2025 will be held at the library of the Gaidar Institute and MSSES (Shaninka) on March 5th, 2025, at 19:00.

    The following speakers will feature at the presentation:
  • Alexey Ulyukayev, Ph.D., Principal Researcher at the Economic Policy Foundation
  • Sergey Prikhodko, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Gaidar Institute, moderator of the meeting
  • Alexey Vedev, Ph.D., Leading Researcher at the Gaidar Institute, former Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation

The participants will discuss trends in the development of the global economy, the specifics of monetary and fiscal policy implementation by the world’s leading economies, the prospects of the dollar as the main reserve currency and what alternatives it has.

What ideas can economics offer to currency holders, how to behave rationally in a complex multi-currency world? How can we properly assess the impact of global challenges on currency stability, such as the impact of U.S. government debt on dollar stability? How do demographic factors affect the position of major global currencies? What about China? These and other issues covered in the book will be the subject of discussion at the meeting.
