IEP Experts Took Part in the OECD Scientific Seminar

On July 25, a joint seminar of experts of the Gaidar Institute and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development was held in Paris, France. The seminar was dedicated to discussion of the methods of analysis of GDP dynamics applied by the OECD.

 

The Gaidar Institute was represented by Sergei Drobyshevsky, Academic Director of the IEP, Pavel Trunin, Head of the Center for Macroeconomics and Finance and Maria Kazakova, Deputy Head of the International Department of Budget Stability Research.

 

At the seminar, reports were presented both on the OECD methods of breaking down GDP growth rates of the OECD member states and a number of other countries (including Russia) into a structural and market (cyclic) components and the calculation of output gap. М. Kazakova delivered a presentation on the approach of the Gaidar Institute to breaking down of GDP into the above components.

 

During the meeting, the experts discussed the need of and approaches to identification in the dynamics of Russian GDP of the third component related to the dynamics of oil prices.

 

Also, at the seminar reports by OECD experts dedicated to the methods and issues related to forecasting of the GDP dynamics and building of advanced indicators of business activities were presented.

 

In addition to the above, the issues of further cooperation between the OECD and the Gaidar Institute within the frameworks of the partnership agreement were discussed.
