Lora Nakoryakova explained why popularity of energy-efficient housing is growing in Russia

Lora Nakoryakova, Partner, Center of Event Based Expertise at the Gaidar Institute and AGENCYTDE, told Rossiyskaya Gazeta why the demand for energy efficient housing is increasing.

The expert noted that growing popularity of energy-efficient housing in Russia is primarily due to the possibility to save on utility costs: owing to modern technologies and materials, energy-efficient housing allows to significantly reduce heating and electricity costs, on average by 20–30%, according to expert estimates.

Generally, households' concern over the expected increase in the electricity tariff is rising. According to the Ministry of Economic Development, in 2025 tariffs for electricity consumed by households in Russia will rise by an average of 12.5%. Accordingly, the use of energy efficient technologies will allow people to reduce their dependence on tariff hikes.

Increased households' awareness of environmental responsibility and carbon footprint reduction, as well as the introduction to the market of this particular type of housing possessing energy efficiency technologies are also important factors, Lora Nakoryakova added.
