The correspondence between Hannah Arendt and Karl Jaspers began in 1926, when the twenty-year-old Arendt studied philosophy with Jaspers in Heidelberg. It was interrupted with the emigration of Arendt and the" internal emigration " of Jaspers and resumed immediately after the end of the Second World War. The teacher-student relationship eventually developed into a close friendship, which was soon joined by Jaspers ' wife Gertrude and Arendt's husband Heinrich Blucher. These letters show not only how both philosophers lived, thought and worked, but also how they perceived the post-war years.
