Seminar "New Challenges for the Sovereign Welfare Funds on the Post-Soviet Space in the Wake of the Global Crisis"

Representatives of the IMF, Revenue Watch Institute (USA), Center for Public Finance Watch (Azerbaijan), Center for Public Policy Research (Kazakhstan) and Soros Foundation (Kazakhstan) participated in it.

Academic Director of Gaidar Institute, Dr. Sergey Sinelnikov-Murylev, the RWI regional director, Galib Efendiev, and deputy director of the department of public debt of the RF Ministry of Finance, Pert Kozakevich, gave a welcome opening address.

Akram Asanov (Revenue Watch Institute, NY, USA) made a presentation "Transparency: Governments and Oil and Gas, Mining Industries". Presentation made by Sergey Drobyshevsky (Gaidar Institute) focused on the analysis of experience and prospects of Russia’s Sovereign Funds. Meruert Makhmutova (Center for Public Policy Research, Kazakhstan) and Ingilab Akhmedov (Center for Public Finance Watch, Azerbaijan) briefed on the creation and operation of national oil funds.
