The Gaidar Readings in Arzamas
The Gaidar Readings on the theme 'Strategy of Russia's Socio-Economic Development Until 2020' were held on 6 and 7 October 2011 at Arzamas, Nizhnii-Novgorod Oblast. The Conference was organized by the Gaidar Institute, the Russian Academy of Public Administration and National Economy under the President of the Russian Federation, and the Yegor Gaidar Foundation, with the support of Arzamas City Administration.
The Readings were attended by G. A. Rapot, the RF President's Plenipotentiary Representative in the Volga Federal District; A. N. Migunov, Mayor of Arzamas; V. A. Mau, Rector of the Russian Academy of Public Administration and National Economy under the President of the Russian Federation; Ya. M. Urinson, President of the All-Russian Association of Privatized and Private Enterprises; G. A. Tomchin, member of the Yegor Gaidar Foundation's Board; V. V. Gavrilov, President of the Association of Small and Medium-Size Towns of Russia; and others.
The following events took place within the Reading's framework: open meetings of experts' groups Read Federalism, Local Self-government, Interbudgetary Policy and Leveling Inequality and Overcoming Poverty; a meeting of the Board of the Association of Small and Medium-Size Towns of Russia; round tables Power and Society and Influence of Russia's History on Its Economy.
Besides, students of the higher educational establishments of Arzamas had an opportunity to attend the open lectures delivered by S. M. Drobyshevsky (Director of the Gaidar Institute's Center for Macroeconomics and Finance) who spoke on the theme Regional Development and the Socio-economic Challenges Faced by Russia and Regional Development, and G. A. Tomchin, whose presentation was entitled Power, Society, Corruption.
