WILL RUSSIA RETURN TO THE HERITAGE OF THE COMMAND ECONOMY? PRESENTATION OF VALERY VYZHUTOVITCH’S BOOK “NIKOLAI BAIBAKOV. STALIN’S LAST PEOPLE’S COMMISSAR
The presentation of the book – “Nikolai Baibakov. Stalin’s Last People’s Commissar” – by Valery Vyzhutovich, a renowned journalist will be held at the Conference Hall of Gaidar Institute at 18:00 on November 28, 2022.
The Russian elite has started debating the issue of a possible return to the planned economy or individual components thereof. However, the Russian economic system has been based on the market principles for the past three decades. The problem is that the secrets of the State Planning Committee have long been lost and only few professionals know them. From the biography of Nikolai Baibakov, a legendary head of the USSR State Planning Committee who lived a long life and worked with Stalin, Khruschev, Brezhnev and Gorbachev, one can learn about the organization of the planned economy and its mechanisms from inside the system. Participants in the presentation of Valery Vyzhutovich’s book “Nikolai Baibakov, Stalin’s Last People’s Commissar” will discuss what lessons can be learnt from the functioning and collapse of the planned economy.
The presentation will be attended by Valery Vyzhutovich, author of the book, journalist and Yakov Urinson, Chairman of the Yegor Gaidar Fund’s Governing Board, ex-Deputy Chairman of the Government, Former Minister of Economy of the Russian Federation.
