Trade turnover between the U.S. and Russia in 2009 has decreased by 36.4%

The volume of the US-Russia trade turnover in the current year has declined significantly in the background of the global financial crisis. According to the FCS statistics, the trade turnover between the U.S. and Russia has amounted to USD 12.7 billion within three quarters of 2009, which is by 36.4% less than in the same period of 2008.

Following the results of Quarter III of 2009, the Russian GDP has reduced by 8.9% as compared with the relevant period of 2008. According to the Russian Federal State Statistics Service, the Russian GDP downgrading has become the most significant among the BRIC countries and the G8.

In January – October 2009, industrial production in Russia went down by 13.3%. This deceleration of the Russian economy has been associated with the trend towards a contraction of internal-investment and consumer demand.
On energy saving and improving energy efficiency

On 18 November, the Federation Council approved the Law ‘On energy saving, the improvement of energy efficiency, and the introduction of alterations into some legislative acts of the Russian Federation". The goal of this Law is to create the legal, economic and organizational foundations for promoting energy saving and improving energy cost-effectiveness.
